Terms of Service — Contractors

Last updated: 1 September 2026

Sections marked DEFAULT reflect a reasonable industry-standard position, not a confirmed business decision. These should be consciously reviewed and confirmed, or changed, before this document is relied upon.

1. Acceptance of these terms

These terms govern your use of Workopoly as a contractor. Workopoly is operated by Archema Labs Ltd, trading as Workopoly, company number SC879076, registered office in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these terms.

2. What Workopoly is, and what it is not

Workopoly is a connector, not a mediator, and not your employer. We provide tools to help you find work, quote for it, and document the agreement and payment schedule for a job with a homeowner.

We are not a party to the agreement between you and any homeowner. You are responsible for the quality, safety, and legality of your own work, and for holding whatever insurance, qualifications, and registrations your trade requires. Using Workopoly does not make you an employee, worker, or agent of Archema Labs Ltd.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old, resident in the United Kingdom, and legally entitled to carry out the trade work you offer. By creating an account, you confirm that this is accurate.

4. Your account and profile

You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for the accuracy of your business profile, trades, service areas, and any documents or credentials you upload.

Any registration number, insurance detail, or qualification you provide must be genuine and currently valid. Providing false or expired credentials is a breach of these terms.

5. Verification badges are not a guarantee

A Companies House verification check confirms that your registration number matches an active company on the public register at the time it was checked. It is not a guarantee of the quality of your work, your financial standing, or your conduct, and homeowners are told this directly. Public liability insurance and business registration documents you upload are self-reported and are not independently verified by us.

6. Quoting and fees

Quoting, messaging, and creating an agreement carries no charge to you. The Contractor Plan is an optional subscription, currently £15 per month, which adds AI-assisted writing tools, visible verified badges, and instant Companies House checks. You may cancel this subscription at any time; it will remain active until the end of the current billing period.

Workopoly does not process payment for your work. You are paid directly by the homeowner, by whatever method you agree between yourselves. We provide a shared payment schedule that both sides may confirm, but we are not responsible for the homeowner actually making that payment. The Contractor Plan subscription itself is billed monthly in advance via Stripe, our third-party payment processor; Stripe's own terms apply to that billing, and we are not responsible for any decline, delay, or error caused by Stripe. If a payment fails, we may suspend your access to the Contractor Plan until payment is successfully collected. We do not provide refunds or credits for a partial month of the Contractor Plan.

7. Reviews

After a job is marked complete, the homeowner may leave a public review of your work. You may also leave a private review of the homeowner, covering communication, payment reliability, and friendliness. This is never shown publicly and is visible only to other contractors with an active Contractor Plan subscription.

Reviews must reflect a genuine, completed job on the platform. We may remove a review, or decline to publish one, that we reasonably believe is fraudulent, retaliatory, or unrelated to the actual work.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Provide false or expired credentials, registration details, or insurance information
  • Harass, threaten, or discriminate against a homeowner or any other user
  • Post a fraudulent or retaliatory review
  • Use Workopoly to make initial contact with a homeowner and then deliberately move the relationship off-platform specifically to avoid platform fees
  • Attempt to access another user's account or data without authorisation

9. Intellectual property

Workopoly and its branding, design, and software remain our property. Your business content — your profile, bio, and portfolio photographs — remains yours, but you grant us a licence to display it on the platform, including your public profile page, for as long as your account exists.

10. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded under UK law.

Subject to the above, our total liability to you arising out of your use of Workopoly is limited to the lower of £500 or the total Contractor Plan fees you have paid to us in the 12 months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for any loss of business, contracts, or profit, or for any loss, cost, or damage arising from the work you carry out for a homeowner, which is a matter between you and them.

11. Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time through Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account, and revoke any verification or subscription badge, if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms, provided false credentials, acted fraudulently, or behaved in a way that puts a homeowner or another user at risk.

12. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts. If you are a consumer resident in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland, nothing in this clause affects any right you may have under consumer protection law to bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Where a change is significant, we will tell you directly before it takes effect.
